Put A Bird
04:35
|
|||
Put a bird in a burning tree.
It would fly away, unless that bird was me
For I don't know how to fly.
And I'm afraid of heights.
And to open up my wings terrifies me more anything.
So forest fire single blaze,
I'd bound to keep my place,
and from the treetop watch it all burn down,
baking blacker, passing out.
What's the use a bird who cannot fly?
Where's the good in a girl who just cries?
Where's the mirth in a merle who will not sing.
A broken pot doesn't hold anything.
What's the use of a bird who cannot fly?
who'll never feel the winds of the sky.
Where's the mirth in a merle who will not sing,
nor spread the joy of the dawn and what she brings.
Where's the good in a girl who just cries?
And all she sees are the things that she despises.
A broken pot doesn't hold anything...

A barometer fell in love with a very handsome-looking thermometer
and she knew that he could no help by warm to her.
It was the perfect fastening of hands
they felt as if they'd come from the same strange land
where things must move and never still.
Yes, that was their own and their shared idyll
to always dance and never stop.
They planned to bear and grow a tiny clock
and this is where they'd spend their time.
But the barometer moved with the weather and never stayed the same one day to the next.
And the thermometer, if you asked his friends, well they would say he was mercurial, up-and-down, he couldn't keep his feet on the ground.
And one day a fearsome gust of wind blew him away.

Perm
02:24
|
|||
If there's time I might perm my hair
and dowse my skin in lavender.
I'd like some shoes and a chair that's new-
and then I'll look nice the tv-room.
I never thought I'd go outside again-
what if I saw you? What would I say?
But time's caught up, and things are never the same.
My heart has failed me and yet I am still here.
Don't deserve a chance at finding some cheer.

Diving Down
05:02
|
|||
Ooh diving own, diving down!
What but a fisherman trying to drown?
Clawing water, turning white, a bloating face fixed with fright.
>"Why man, why would you want to die?
>Why man, why would you leave your life?
>Here's no place for a human soul,
>down with the fish and the dark coral."
"Ooh diving own, diving down!
I dove too far, there I started to drown.
My life's work is catching fish;
I spied one then I couldn't resist.
The storm-light plays tricks on my eyes
and that fish glamoured with a disguise.
I lost my wife many years ago
she haunts me now, I can't let go.
Ooh diving own, diving down!
When I lost that fish I decided to drown.
I'm too old for chasing tales, my hear'ts too weak and I've windless sails.
But why", said he, "you look like she.
And what's a woman like you doing under the sea?
Could it be now my death's drawn near, I've been returned to my lover-dear?"
> "I am nothing, but of your mind
> and here your love you'll never find.
> Your anchor's locked firm in the past
> and with that weight you'll never last
> Dare you cut loose from that girl?
> Maybe then you'll find a pearl.
> You cannot stay here very long;
> the water pressure is very strong.
> You've tied yourself up in your nets
> because you refuse to forget.
> With that curse you'll keep her bound
> so she must never leave the ground
> Dare you cut loose from that girl?
> Maybe then you'll find a pearl.
> You cannot stay here very long.
> the water pressure is very strong.
> You've tied yourself up in your nets
> because you refuse to forget.
> you've tied yourself up in your nets
> because you refuse to forget.

Out Walking
04:05
|
|||
Out walking in the woods one day,
one fated step and I had become prey.
The woodsman trapping game had not
foreseen a maiden as his lot.
But snare me here, and hold me there,
his bounty I could be!
For it were twenty years passed since I left this body.
So love it, own it, main it dry!
Hold it, hurt it, make it cry!
For it's elsewhere, buried deep in snow,
that the bird of my soul has made its home.

I shot You
03:03
|
|||
I shot you last night.
I didn't mean to;
I couldn't stop.
My body
like a ghost;
no will, nor want
but to shoot, shoot you down, watch you drop.
I shot you last night.
I didn't mean to;
I couldn't stop.

In Your Mouth
04:44
|
|||
I'm in the garden.
I'm in the house.
I'm in the spinning wheel.
I'm in your mouth.
I'm in the flicker,
I'm in the flame.
I go forever.
You know my name.
Li-ly, li-lie, li-ly, li-low, li-ly, li-ly, li-ly, li-lie, li-ly, li-low, li-ly, li-lie, li-ly, li-la, li-ly-la, li-ly, li-la, li-ly, li-la.

Threads
02:36
|
|||
An open door
a burning hearth.
A glass is broken, my book untouched.
Where have you gone?
Where have you gone?
Where have you gone?
Where have you gone?
I'm standing in a web;
you're holding every thread.
I can't escape your screams.
I hate when you scream.
